german fountain

the german fountain in the hippodrome area of istanbul. this is one of the first fountains we saw i turkey. it seems fountains and mosques are the two types of buildings that got the most adornment. there wasn’t anything in particular i liked about this specific fountain, but it’s a good example of a fountain. they didn’t usually seem to have a way to go inside but instead had ornate faucets around the outside which would pour into basins. islam requires washing in a certain way to clean oneself before prayer using flowing water, not standing water such as is found in a cistern.
