pottery kebap

our second night in göreme we ate pottery kebaps at a local restaurant suggested by our guide for its low prices and good food. shown here is the bottom half of the pot the kebap (more of a stew) was cooked in. the top formed a sort of a chimney with about a one inch diameter opening. the pot was scored around the middle and you tapped it firmly with a hammer all the way around so you could lift off the top. most of us managed to crack our pots all the way around at the scoring but a couple cracked a little further down. i ended up crunching a little bit of pot with my dinner even though i had expertly separated my pot precisely around the middle.
