cave church

late in out last full day in göreme, we had done everything we had wanted to do and decided to wander to the open-air museum and see if it looked like it would be worth paying admission. the walk there was longer than i remembered (we had previously driven past in a dolmuş (a 12-passenger van / bus)) so we diverted onto a dirt road while enjoying the scenery, and eventually diverted even further onto dirt footpaths. there are footpaths leading to the pigeon houses so farmers can collect fertilizer, and i though it would be neat to see one up close. one of the paths lead right up to the doorway here. when i looked inside, instead of fertilizer i saw a column — turns out this is an abandoned cave church that we just happened to stumble upon!
