cover art
looking back on it now, i'm not sure what an atomic-looking symbol has to do with blowing speakers, but for whatever reason that's what i went for. the red ellipses are the result of a red ellipse with a smaller ellipse cut out of the center, along with some rotating, trimming (for intertwined effect) and a nice blur. the text itself sort of looks like what you'd get if you blew out whatever used to be filling in the letters, and i don't know why i decided to give it a shadow / reflection / whatever thing. i think i was having fun with the filters here. the back of this one is a scan of one of my speakers tinted red with a white tracklist in a cool, shaken-around, broken-looking font.
music
as this one says on the back, "specifically engineered as to have the greatest chance of blowing your speakers." i think this is the first cd where i experimented with track blending. i collected a bunch of tracks with a lot of bass, and put them together with just a little bit of mixing. my favorite trick on this cd seemed to be stereo effects: i would fade over one channel and then follow with the other instead of doing both at the same time, which sort of makes it sound like the new track is coming in from the side.

This is so weird. I love doing the exact same thing. Mixing a concept album of some of my favorite tracks in a category and then designing a cover to go with it (for proof see http://hire.ryantoyota.com/Portfolio/Elements.html). But that's not the weird coincidental thing. The weird coincidental thing is that it looks like you stole half of these tracks from my music collection, and the other half I'm fairly familiar with but don't own. I just thought that was the coolest thing, that there's someone else out there that loves to do this, with the same bands and everything, and also to find someone else who obviously feels that there's something very special about the seventh track. |

I've made a lot of concept / compilation albums with covers as well ... most of mine tend to be metal and the covers are mostly my photographs though. Yeah, it's fun. |
